HUGE CHALLENGES IN REGARD OF SOCIAL WOKER

IT was on the 04/07/2010 community gathered at the kgoro ,a place community issues

discussed at.i found out that the issue was all about the unfinished continous matter of

uvailability of social worker in the community of ga-pila/sterkwater.

I found that the headman refused the letters from the councilor and reconciliation committee

in which was requesting him to attend the kgoro on this day of 04/07/2010 in regard of the

problematic issue to be solved in regard of the social worker ,as resolution had been taken by the community ,said by the councilor.

I found that mapela tribal authority ,podium community platform as media and department

of social development were not available.Only nearby tinmine police station comander was available.department of social and development apologised by forwarding social worker

who residents fighting for him to be in the community.I can assue you that the residents

seen loosing hope about the leadership of this community.political laguage seen as the main

source that influencing the fiction among the youth and the quadians of this relocated community.

Other residents interprit this dilemma as coused by the legacy of relocation in which brought

by the mine anglo platinum.Ward 16 councilor and pr councilor were forwarded to the department of social and development as a result that community want back social worker and the department itself must come back to the community.What i found most intresting

is that even tinmine station commander volonteer to accompany the two councilor.

With my opinion i commend that the government as a policy maker must look a proper way for providing skills of improving the traditional leaders according to the modern developmental basic need of the entire economy.But the remaining question is that how long this community will wait for the nearby service derlivery ,whereas many children in this community need assistancy as other they dont have parents to suport them.

HUGE CHALLENGES IN THE COMMUNITY

IT was on the 29/06/2010 arround 10hoo AM residents of this community of sterkwater
''predicted it as a ghost relocated community''enter their traditional court ''KGORO''organized by
councilor of ward 16 due to the deteroration of the resolution being taken by the community at the kgoro in regard of availability of social worker.

Councilor explained more about what happened since from the dateb of the 20/06/2010
till 28/06/2010 to the community at gathering.After councilor anounced that the social worker will no more be available in the community because of the khuduthamaga , the entire mass seen
full of pressure of unconditional acts.

Four member were elected [two men and two women] to go to request headman to avail himself
emediatly at the kgoro .unfortunatly headman refused by saying that he is in the meeting
with the mine representatives[anglo platinum],offwhich one of them was MRS Thembi Nkadimeng as project manager ,said by those four elected members.

Community requested that the councilor and reconciliation committee must write letters to
headman pila,Mapela tribal authority,social worker,department of social and development to
come to solve this erratic issue as most ofthe residents need social worker nearby as most are not earning or working to affort transport fair to went out far to get service delivery of social
worker especialy women.resolution was taken that on the 04/07/2010 there must be a meeting
at the KGORO.

FOLLOWUP OF ISSUE OF SOCIAL WOKER

During my fieldwork ,after a week resolution being taken at the kgoro ,I found out that
community resolution had been changed by khuduthamaga[ga-pila executive]which
residents alleged that it is not the relevent member for the ga-pila tribal council.

Ifound out that on the 28/06/2010 there were an internal meeting at community clinic
in regard of this issue of social worker.The meeting was organized by khuduthamaga by
inviting social worker by letter and other letter tpo the clinic.

I found that social worker by himself forwarded the letter tothe department of social and development.The fiction was all about the community hall in which khuduthamaga refuse
to be used untill they get the keys.That means even social worker will not conduct his work or duty insite this building as other complain that they had been arrested trying to know how it came ,including headman pila.

I found out clear that at the end of discussions ,the department of social and development
concluded by saying thatthe social worker must return back at ''mapela''clinic which is far
away from sterkwater,because they don't want to interfere in community fictions.Councilor was not invited to the meeting ,whereas he was the one who brought the social worker to the Ga-pila tribal council

COMMUNITY DISPUTE in regard of social woker

I my research i found that social woker had being introdused to the Ga-pila tribal council
on the 17/06/2010 by ward 16 councilor.Whereby on the 20/06/2010 community was called
to the kgoro to introduce the social woker ,who brought by department of social and development.

I found that at the end of the discussions of the issue of social woker vitality of availability in this communityfor quicker nearby service delivery especialy for those who do not have an access
to pay transport fair to get assistancy in regard of family matters,this ledt the community to took a resolution that the social woker must be allocated an office in the community hall sponsored by anglo platinum,as at the community clinic there is no space.

THIS resolution was taken by entire community with conjunction with ward 16 councilor,headman with his executive,and social woker who by origin as a resident of this
community.

SHUSHUMELA EXTENTION near Huge valley

Since from 2001 being former ga-pila relocated at sterkwater farm,dispute arized from the community ,as residents seen as victimised by the legacy of relication being sponsered by
anglo platinum ,left them confused

especialy those presently live in the extention called shushumela ,next to phase two in this settled village.

During conducting interview randomly with residents of this extention ,i found that ''formerly his extention came into existace due to the toitoi of the residents of those relocatedin the new houses ,as they alleged that the selarated site isolated from the village by the huge valley,where
supposed to be built 250 houses as constributions or thanks from group five[as was the main
constructor of the new houses at sterkwater]to the community''.This gave me a pure picture
of the relevation of this name shushumela how it came.

I found out that there where no disclosure evidence that reflect,about who will be the owner
of those 250 houses and how much money was alocated for the construction.That is where the
youth took the audited site and made sharks by force.I found that the reason being done so ,was all about to stop the unknown agreements projects to be implimented to the site without community knwoledge and consent.

Inspite of the limited fundamental intro,with my observations,i met both residents from the extention and the village ,who told me that ,it is so very much painful living under critical challenges in this years of ''Democracy''.Because in order to get basic needs ,they must have to pass by huge valleyas there is no bridge whichis being promised two years ago, till this days.

During the night and ruiny ,it is disasters as the plase it is so dark without provision of electricity .ITis much better this days as municipality providedthem with water tankers ,unlike before they have to pass by huge valley carrying and pushing wheelbarrow loading heavy laggages,as taxi cannot went through.

I found out that ,on the 20/06/2010 the councilor of ward 16 anounced at the traditional court[Kgoro]that ,the bridge will be temporaly constructed via the old bridge that would be removed out in the midst of the present constructed road of Ga-matlou and Sterkwater farm.

THE residents of the shushumela extention still waiting with pressure.

HAZARD AND UNINSPECTED STORMWATER DRAINAGE SYSTEM

IT is nearly adecate [ten years],the former Ga-pila village beeing relocated by

angloplatinum mine company and settled here at the so called STERKWATER farm

and living under a tenssion,critism and chaos condition more especialy when comes to the

way poor general stormwater drainage system infrustructure design constructed around this community of which defined as GHOST RELOCATED COMMUNITY.
During my fieldwork ,i observed and found that stormwater dranage system is made with the
provision and paid by angloplatinum.But the reswidents of this community of sterkwater
complain that these design is of poor standard because is not covered and protective on
top.During the night it is problematic as this is not easly noticeable as the is no signs for
alert even because of the darkness of the community which is in the middle of the mountains.
I met a man who is now crepples as he was trying to escape away from the thugs those where
hiding themselves beneath this stormwater.his leg was broken as he fell to other site of this stormwater and he said to me that he receives social grand as he is no loger fit enough to do any
work.
IN my research i found that several cars had been fallen in this stormwater ,during the night even day light as this is not noticeable especialy to those are non-residents.
During my fieldwork ,i noticed that this stormwater drainage system design is now developed into stream like river to other site insite this community.With my observation this caused
by soil erotion that went easly into this stormwater more especialy during rainy as roads
are not paved.
Residents complain much more continously about this system as many says that since from the
begining of relocation maintanance and inspection never done to ensure that this stormwater
is not going to be full with soil and water moves freely.
MORE concern arose as what seen in the river is what noticed about this system,like development of thorns,green tall grass and green still water.of which it looks unsave and healthy
to the children as seen playing next and insite it,whereas there are lots of hazard objects
littered in this stormwater system like bottles and other dangerous objects.those next to this disaster complains about the bite of mosguitos and the noise revealed by coughing of crabs during the night.
IT is arguable that angloplatinum had a responsebilities as the project sponsor to resolve
this issue of poor unsafe stormwater drainage system infrustructure design.
I believe that the remedy for this issue could be improved by reconstructing this stormwater
system into proper standard to regulate the risky and unsafe to the life condition of the entire
community as they have the right to enjoy adequate living condition,particularly in relation
to basic general infrustructure.

POOR HOUSING INFRUSTRUCTURE

In my research after

angloplatinum handed over houses to sterkwater community since from the 09/07/2001 ,I observed this problematic daily issues..

The residents of this community are grossly dissatisfied with the manner in which the housing

plan and constructions implimented.As foundations are exposed to soil erosion ,especialy apron

surrounding the round house.Most of the community members are experiencing severe cracks in the main structures[wall and floor].Some of the houses are not properly plastered internaly.

Bugwash type of plaster is used .Worse of all plastering is pealing off easly,you cannot even put

a nail on the wall.

In my research i found that angloplatinum claims that the housing offered to the residents are much unique than that what they had before relocation .But the residents claims that the typical

houses [they had been offered did not match up to the promises that had been made by angloplatinum during the audit process]built are poorly that they crack and they believe materials used in the project are not comply with the SOUTH AFRICAN BEREU OF STANDARD[s.a.b.s].

During my observation i found that electricity installation is such that one should take over by

wiring each and every room,because only meter and distributoin boxes are only suplied in most

houses.These are only few to mention,others are reserved.

With my opinion ,if angloplatinum believes that these houses are of latest standard then they are

challenging building society knwoledge and techniques,because i dont see any uniqueness of

housing infrustructure in this community of Gapilasterkwater
